I had the pleasure of attending the Big Apple Circus “Metamorphosis” this past Sunday with my family. First off there are no bad seats as the seating is circular around a single ring in an almost intimate setting (their trademark) and all the seats get a great view of the stage. The Ringmaster John Kennedy Kane brought all the acts to life with his well thought out and funny narrations. Francesco the clown was hilarious! He was very engaging and interacted with the audience throughout the entire show, getting random members of the audience to help him with his acts. My favorite was a little boy he got to sing along to Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. Bravo!
There were so many fun and interesting acts in the show. “Contortion in a Cube” had two women contort their bodies in such a way that they were BOTH able to fit in a small, clear cube! The “Down on the Farm, Dogs, and More” act featuring numerous animals and The Anastasini Brothers acrobatic troupe were very fun to watch. One of my favorite acts was the “Aerial Spaceship” which floated and glided around the arena while two acrobats performed feats of balance around ‘space’, also one of my son’s favorites!
The “Living Carousel” was just beautiful to see, musical moments with audience participation, camels and Francesco the Clown, so entertaining and funny! “Rolla Bolla” was a crowd pleaser and the classic “Quick Change” was fascinating! How one was able to change into different beautiful costumes in mere seconds, in the blink of an eye, was so cool! The kids had so much fun and watched the entire show from start to finish without leaving their seats- that is hard to do!
I highly recommend the Big Apple Circus for a fun day out with the family. The shows are at Lincoln Center, easily accessible by car or subway, and they don’t beat you over the head with concessions and toys to buy! You can purchase tickets here: http://www.bigapplecircus.org/ Use Promo Code:
