Explore Peter Rabbit's House

As a mom, I enjoy creating new traditions that are special to my family.  A few years ago,  I took my son to see Peter Rabbit’s house, a small house that sits in a little park known as The Pleasance in Newtown, right behind the Newtown Police Department. It looks like a giant dollhouse (see photo accompanying this article), gray with white trimming and red shutters complete with a little picket fence.  You will also find other little surprises which are based on “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” by Beatrix Potter.  Kids are welcomed to enter and explore the inside of the house where they will find a bed, chair, other household items and pictures of Peter Rabbit himself.

When we went last year I somehow managed to sneak in the book “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” and a couple of stuffed eggs which I hid in and around the house.  My son found the eggs then we read the book on a little bench right outside.  He loved it!  We hung around a little bit afterwards so he could explore and play.  Once again, on our way to school recently he asked if we are going to visit Peter Rabbit’s house this year and I said yes... and so we continue with our tradition.  The house is easy to find, literally directly behind the police station near the parking lot at 3 Main Street, Newtown - the address will take you to the police department (the closest I could get for an address to the house.)  It’s a lot of fun to search for the house and the reaction you will get from the kids is priceless.   I hope you enjoy Peter Rabbit's house as much as we do!
