On your mark, get set, GO! The Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary is excited to announce that its 4th annual RACE FOR CATHERINE will return to Newtown, Conn. this October 13. Teams and individuals are invited to join the sanctuary to walk or run this “5K for Kindness,” a community-driven event for all ages. The RACE FOR CATHERINE takes place at Fairfield Hills Campus and is a USA Track & Field certified & timed course that can be used to qualify for other races.

The event celebrates the life of Catherine Hubbard, a passionate animal lover who lost her life during the Sandy Hook tragedy, and all proceeds will go towards sanctuary programs that foster the human animal bond. In keeping with Catherine’s love of all creatures, this year’s race features adoptable animals, family-friendly entertainment, collectable swag, FREE breakfast and some amazing, rescued wildlife ambassadors including a falcon and a tortoise! October’s race also features a new KIDS KINDNESS DASH for children ages 3-9, allowing the youngest “do gooders” a chance to make a difference while having a blast doing it.

The 2024 RACE FOR CATHERINE will be hosted live in Newtown, CT at Fairfield Hills on October 13th and can be joined virtually anytime and from anywhere October 11th-October 13th. Participants are invited to help shape Catherine’s vision of a kinder and gentler world for all by signing up, getting outdoors and running (or walking) for an amazing cause – inspiring a better world for animals, humans and the environment, one step at a time.

“We are so excited to welcome back runners and walkers from all around the country for this year’s RACE FOR CATHERINE,” said Jenny Hubbard, President of the CVH Animal Sanctuary and Catherine’s mother. “It’s so incredible to see people getting out and running to help us bring Catherine’s vision of a more loving world to life. We are so grateful in advance to everyone who can show up here in person and virtually across the nation.”

About the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary

The Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation is a Connecticut-based nonprofit organization working to promote compassion and healing through human-animal connection. The foundation was started in 2013 to commemorate and honor the life of Catherine Violet Hubbard, a six-year-old victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy and passionate animal lover. In 2014, the CVH Foundation was awarded more than 34 acres of CT state farmland by a unanimous legislative decision, which would become home to the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary. Since its inception, the organization has raised more than $9 million in funding, supporting its breadth of programming that by honoring the human-animal connection, is providing tools and skills that translate into compassionate and accepting human-human interactions. Specifically, the sanctuary focuses on environmental stewardship, provides no cost humane education curriculum and community workshops, aid for seniors to keep and care for their pets, and property revitalization efforts.  Through caring, educating and protecting animals, the sanctuary’s programs have become recognized as a beacon for fostering human empathy and promoting harmonious coexistence among all beings.
